FREMONT, Ohio (June 3, 2019) – Despite his main event ending just as quick as it started, the ‘Texas Traveler’ T.J. Michael performed well during his trip to Mansfield Motor Speedway for the highly-coveted Sprint Car World Championship, ultimately wrapping up his one-day campaign in eastern Ohio with a preliminary main event start on Friday evening, May 31.
Michael, driver of the Michael Motorsports/Advanced Architectural Stone/Crown Battery/Fremont Fence Company/Pro-Tech Services/Wood Heating and Air Conditioning/Kear’s Speed Shop/Wings Unlimited/Soul Fully Rooted/Big D’s Pizza/No. 8M sprint car, qualified for his respective Sprint Car World Championship preliminary A-main by finishing second during one of two B-mains. Unfortunately, any further progress was halted immediately, as Michael was unable to avoid a tangle during the opening lap of preliminary main event action.
“That has been the story for us the last few weeks; being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” T.J. Michael expressed regarding his Mansfield results. “Not a lot to say, really. Just disappointed. Hopefully we can shake this off before speedweek begins in a few weeks. I have a great team and they work very hard. I think we all deserve some success.”
Unfortunately, like so many other instances thus far in 2019, Mother Nature stepped in and interfered in Mansfield, eventually forcing the cancellation of not only night one, but also the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship finale on June 1. The event will be contested later in the year.
Michael will enjoy a weekend away from competition before returning to the driver’s seat on Friday, June 14, for the opening night of Ohio Sprint Speedweek featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions.

2018 Highlights: Earned a pair of top-ten finishes with OVSCA on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12; fifth at Hilltop Speedway (Millersburg, Ohio) and seventh at Wayne County (Ohio) Speedway. Earned top-ten (6th) finish with FAST Series at Fremont Speedway on Saturday, May 26. Charged from 19th to finish eighth at Attica on Friday, June 1, followed by a charge from 18th to finish 10th at Fremont on Saturday, June 2. Rallied from 12th to sixth during All Star/Speedweek A-main at Sharon Speedway on June 19. Advanced from 18th to 12th during Atomic Speedway/Speedweek make-up feature on June 23. Finished second during FAST action at Attica on June 29. Battled from 15th to eighth during FAST action at Fremont on June 30. Finished seventh at Fremont Speedway during FAST action on July 7. Joined the World of Outlaws and qualified for the Brad Doty Classic main event and finished 19th (50 cars). Rallied from 19th to finish 12th at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, July 27.
