R. J. Conley Fastest Among 67 Entrants for the Sunoco
North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil
UNION, KY (August 9, 2013) – R.J. Conley of Wheelersburg OH set a blistering pace in time trials setting the fastest lap in qualifying over a stout field of 67nentrants on Friday Night at Florence Speedway. R.J. has made four Sunoco North/South 100 starting grids in his career and has finished tenth, twice. The crown jewel event sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will pay $50,000 to win on Saturday Night.
The six LOLMDS heat races will begin at 8 PM on Saturday Night. Starting on the pole for each of the six heat races Saturday night include; Tim McCreadie of Watertown, NY; Eric Wells of Hazard, KY; Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY; Duane Chamberlain of Richmond, IN; Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV; and Steve Francis of Ashland, KY. None of the pole-sitters have ever won the North/South 100.
The six-lap RED BUCK Fast Dash for the three fastest qualifiers in Group A and Group B closed out the activities on Friday night. Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN won the dash that paid $500 to win. Dale McDowell finished second followed by R.J. Conley, Dustin Linville, Greg Johnson, and Steve Casebolt.
“It’s always good to be able to win some extra money and I want to thank RED BUCK for putting up the extra money for the dash tonight. Hopefully we can carry this win into tomorrow night’s main event and get another win here. We really enjoy coming here and racing in front of all the great fans that attend this crown jewel event,” stated Owens in victory lane.
In preliminary action, RJ Conley set the overall time (Group B) amongst the 67 entrants, with a lap of 17.033 seconds. Greg Johnson set the fastest time in Group A with a time of 17.134 seconds.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to action tomorrow night, August 10th at Florence Speedway in Union, KY with the Sunoco North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil. There will be Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 100-Lap main event. For more information, log onto www.florencespeedway.com.
