ST. HELENA, Calif. (August 1, 2022) – After a steering gear issue negated a potential podium result one night prior in I-70 Motorsports Park’s $26,000-to-win Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu was a man on a mission Saturday night at the Sprint Car Capital of the World, driving on to tally his first All Star Circuit of Champions victory of the season, and in convincing fashion, to boot.

Abreu’s victory, resulting in an $8,000 payday, commenced from the outside of row four, securing the top spot on lap 21 with an epic slider in turn three to move around “Sunshine” Tyler Courtney and race long leader, Kerry Madsen.

Despite a last-ditch effort by the “Madman,” attempting a slider in the final corner of the 25-lap affair, Madsen was forced to settle for second, followed by Courtney, Gio Scelzi, and Brian Brown.

There were 55 cars on hand for the All Stars’ lone visit to Knoxville Raceway. Abreu is now a two-time winner in 2022, his first occurring at Grandview Speedway during Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek; he earned $10,000.

Other recent All Star highlights for Rico Abreu includes a top-five appearance at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, on Saturday, July 23. The ace of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Wiser Agency/Toste Construction/No. 24 sprint car started 15th on the Beach Brawl finale A-Main grid and climbed to fifth.

“I just can’t thank my team, Ricky, Zack and Walker, enough for their hard work this year. These guys believe in me and I can see it in their eyes. To go out and win at Knoxville, and right before the Nationals, will do a lot for our confidence. Ricky Warner has done so much for our operation and the results speak for themselves,” Rico Abreu noted. “I want to thank the fans for coming out and supporting us. We have some of the best fans in the world, and their love and support makes winning so much sweeter.”

ON DECK:
Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2022 campaign with the annual Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, August 5-6. The two-day showcase will award $8,000 on Friday and $20,000 on Saturday; Saturday’s finale will go 55-laps in distance.
