2022 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Sixth | 2774 points [130 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 24, 2022) – Despite Mother Nature interfering with weekend plans yet again, ultimately forcing the cancellation of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series visit to Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, set for Saturday, May 21, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing were busy beforehand, tying together a solid stretch of performances highlighted with a podium run at Bridgeport Speedway in Bridgeport, New Jersey, on Tuesday, May 17.

Schatz, a ten-time World of Outlaws champion and driver of the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Digital Ally, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, was nearly perfect in his Bridgeport visit, launching the evening with the second-fastest time overall, earning heat race and dash victories shortly thereafter.

Starting from the pole position, Schatz faded slightly to fourth, all before rebounding late to sneak by Logan Schuchart for third on the final circuit. A last second lunge nearly propelled Schatz to the runner-up spot, but defending NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson, was able hold on.

“I say it all the time but you have to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you can run,” Schatz said after his podium appearance. “We got going near the end and found something down low, and I think we could’ve got the #57 with a few more laps. The guys did a great job and we’re building some momentum with this thing.”

Not quite a podium outcome, but just as impressive in some respect, Schatz would finish seventh in Attica Raceway Park’s Kistler Engines Classic on Friday, May 20, advancing big after starting 14th on the A-Main grid. Utilizing the shortest way around the home of “Ohio’s Finest Racing,” Schatz mastered Attica’s bottom groove to make his progress, now with 14 top-ten finishes in 21 World of Outlaws starts.
