Late Model Sportsman Competitors
In $2,00 To Win Event
PITTSBURGH, PA — The month of June kicks off with the Second Annual Ed Laboon Memorial Classic for the Late Model Sportsman Division this Saturday, June 1st, at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. The 20 lap main event will pay $2,000 to win and $100 to start. In addition, the Pro-Late Model Division drivers will compete in their second Sizzler event with the winner receiving a $1,000 paycheck. The Super Late Models, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns will round out the evening’s racing action.

“Vince Laboon has done a fantastic job of organizing this event and we are proud to be a part of it,” commented Speedway Owner Matt Miley. “Ed was a wonderful man and an ardent supporter of motorsports for many years. It is nice to see the drivers and marketing partners working together to honor Ed with such a prestigious event.”

The Late Model Sportsman competitors will begin the evening with group time trials that will determine the lineups for the ten lap heat events. The top finishers in the preliminary events will then redraw for positions in the Citizens Bank Fast Dash. The winner of the dash will receive $100 for his efforts and will also start on the pole for the feature event. PPMS management will start a maximum of 32 cars in the feature event.

Bob Schwartzmiller was victorious in the inaugural Ed Laboon Memorial event last August and has indicated he will be in attendance this week to defend his crown. Other invaders who have indicated they will make the trek to “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” include Tim Burns, Leigh Wheeler, Bob Sloss and Rod Laskey. In addition, Rusty Martz who scored the Spring Showdown victory on May 18th is hoping to take home the first place prize money.

The 25 lap main event will find the division’s competitors removing their roofs to provide the fans with an opportunity to see inside the cockpit. The winner of the event will be rewarded with a $1,000 paycheck.
