BROWNSBURG, Ind. (August 26, 2019) – Despite his weekend statistics suggesting a tough outing in Central Pennsylvania, Tony Stewart did have some shining moments including a top-ten finish with the All Star Circuit of Champions during the first-ever Hodnett Cup at Grandview Speedway. The Columbus, Indiana-native finished eighth at the Bechtelsville bullring, climbing ahead five spots to secure his 32nd top-ten appearance of the 2019 season.
After a frustrating night at Williams Grove Speedway that saw the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion miss main event competition, due in part to missing the scales after qualifying which forced his time to be erased, Smoke rebounded in a big way on Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, joining a stacked field of 410 sprint cars for Open Wheel Madness 2. Although scored 23rd at feature’s end, Stewart was a contender for the win, actually completing a pass for the lead on lap 22 before making contact with a lapped car. The contact resulted in a flat left-rear tire.
Smoke’s weekend in Central Pennsylvania ended with an 11th place finish during Justin Snyder’s ‘Salute to the Troops’ program at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday, August 25; Stewart started in the exact same position. A fourth place finish during heat race action solidified his place in the starting lineup.
“I think we were better than where we ended up all four nights. It was great to have that kind of speed at Port Royal Speedway,” Tony Stewart said, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car. “All we can do is regroup and try again next weekend.”
Up next on the schedule, Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will make the trip to the Badger State, ready to join the IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series for back-to-back nights of competition on Friday and Saturday, August 30 & 31. Smoke will kick off the weekend at Wilmot Raceway, followed by an appearance at the Plymouth Dirt Track.
