FOREST, Ohio (June 1, 2021) – Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports nearly parked it on Sunday night at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio, but a slight hiccup on the white flag lap forced the familiar “Bumblebee Express” entry to settle for third at the line.

Joining the Ohio-based Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) for their lone event of Memorial Day weekend, Westfall, driver of the Ray Marshall-owned/Ray Marshall Motorsports/Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/No. 33M sprint car, was in a position to pounce the entire main event, using the initial start to jump ahead from fourth to second before nearly taking command at the completion of lap one.

Forced to navigate an increasingly narrow and abrasive surface, a late restart with two to go gave Westfall one final opportunity for victory. Unfortunately, during his attempt to drive around race leader, Paul Dues, at the entrance of turn three, slight contact was made causing the former BOSS Series champ to slip up the track. In response, Korbyn Hayslett capitalized and squeezed by Westfall for second.

The BOSS Series, who welcomed 27 entries at Waynesfield, was scheduled to be in action at Fremont Speedway one night prior, but Mother Nature had other plans.

“I think we were strong enough to win that race,” Westfall said, the 2019 BOSS Series champion. “Racing on a surface like that can be tricky. It’s tough to maneuver. If you slip up and leave the groove, it could cost you several spots. Regardless, I’m proud of this team. Ray (Marshall) gives us the opportunity and the equipment necessary to be competitive and I’m thankful to be a part of it. We’re going to do our best to park this No. 33M in victory lane this weekend.”

Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with the 19th Annual Keysor Memorial at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, on Friday, June 4. A plan for Saturday, June 5, has yet to be determined.
