FOREST, Ohio (May 31, 2022) – Despite a poor hot lap/qualifying effort that forced Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports to start eighth in their respective Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) heat race at Fremont Speedway, the defending Series champions prevailed and charged their way to third, ultimately setting up their eventual rally from 11th to second during the evening’s main event.

Impressive enough, Westfall, ace of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators, Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/No. 33M sprint car, powered his way from 11th to a top-five spot in just five laps, using the middle lane to make most of his progress. The Pleasant Hill, Ohio, native did his best to make a late race bid for the lead, but a tight race car made it difficult to gain on eventual winner, Brian Ruhlman.

Westfall’s runner-up performance matches his season’s best BOSS Series outcome from Montpelier Motor Speedway on April 23.

“We got behind the eight ball early, but we were able to make some adjustments and recover. That just shows what this team is capable of doing,” Matt Westfall said, the 2021 BOSS Series champion. “We have a big weekend ahead at I-96 Speedway. We’ve had some success there in the past, so I’m sure we have what it takes to pick up right where we left off.”
