First Race Sets the Pace; Sodeman Ready to Kick-Off 2016 Season

NORTH JACKSON, Oh. (March 21, 2016) – 2015 Mercer Raceway Park track champion Jack Sodeman Jr. has been waiting since October to get back behind the wheel of a 410 sprint car. The North Jackson, Oh., native, who is celebrating his family’s 45th year of sprint car involvement in 2016, will finally have the opportunity to return to his driver seat on Saturday evening, April 2. The second generation racer will make his 2016 debut during the Mercer Raceway Park season opener; a full “Saturday Night Live” program, featuring all weekly divisions, with no championship points on the line. Sodeman understands how important the first night can be and wants to set a positive tone for the rest of the season.
“The first night is important…it helps set the standard for the entire year” Sodeman Jr. said, “Although it is the first night of many, it is still important for us to show up prepared and ready to go. We want to have a good night and earn a solid finish. Confidence plays a big part in sprint car racing. The last thing we want to do is put ourselves in a position where we are lacking confidence. Having a solid opening night will be a huge momentum boost for the rest of the year.”
Jack Sodeman Jr.’s visit to Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa., on April 2 will kick-off an eight-race schedule during the month of April, split between competition at MRP and the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. Lernerville Speedway’s season will open on Friday evening, April 15, with a non-point Fab Four program.
“If we can race through the month of April without any problems or bumps, we’ll put ourselves in a solid position to win more races than last year” Sodeman Jr. explained, “We don’t like to look too far ahead or try to predict any outcomes, but we understand what it takes to win races. It all starts with night number one…setting a solid pace right out of the gate is most important.”
