Whittall cashes in on Port Royal provisional to finish 21st in $54,000-to-win Tuscarora 50

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

VINCENTOWN, N.J. (September 13, 2021) – Joining the best that sprint car racing has to offer, Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports made the most of their three-day weekend at Port Royal Speedway for the 54th Tuscarora 50, cashing in for a pair of All Star Circuit of Champions A-Main starts, one of which the 50-lap, $54,000-to-win finale on Saturday, September 11. Although not qualifying directly, Whittall’s season-long dedication to the Juniata County “Speed Palace” granted the New Jersey-native a provisional starting position; he would go on to finish 21st.

In addition, Whittall, driver of the JW Motorsports, JG Kronenberger Fine Jewelry, Mid-Atlantic Transport, Brotherton Brewing Company, Beechwood Landscape Architecture and Construction LLC, Pioneer Auto Body, Worldwide Bearings, FK Rod Ends, Stilo Helmets, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Enterprise, Ground Blind Boys, No. 67 sprint car, earned an A-Main starting position in Friday’s Night Before the Tuscarora 50, winning the evening’s B-Main handily to do so. An early retirement would score Whittall 27th in the running order.

An average car count of 52 made the call for Tuscarora 50 weekend including a 57-car field for Saturday’s finale.

“It was a wild weekend, for sure, but I’m proud of our efforts. The Tuscarora 50 is an event everyone has circled on their calendar. That was no different for us. We’ve been excited for that race for months and we’re already looking ahead to next year,” Whittall said, a recent Williams Grove Speedway winner on June 4. “I can’t thank everyone enough for their hard work and support, including my team, my family, and all of our dedicated partners. We have another big weekend ahead, so we’ll reground and work for another win beginning Friday.”

As it stands, Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports plan to rejoin the All Star Circuit of Champions for another Central Pennsylvania blockbuster on Friday and Saturday, September 17-18. The plan includes the rescheduled Jack Gunn Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway, followed by the $20,000-to-win Dirt Classic at Lincoln Speedway.

Dietrich perseveres for Tuscarora 50 A-Main start; BAPS, Williams Grove, and Lincoln visits on deck

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (September 13, 2021) – Although a tough start to his Tuscarora campaign that included a scratch on Thursday, followed by a missed qualifying attempt during the Night Before the Tuscarora 50 B-Main on Friday, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich rebounded big on Saturday and ultimately raced his way into Port Royal Speedway’s 50-lap, $54,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 main event, securing his place on the All Star Circuit of Champions grid with a B-Main victory.

Dietrich, the 2021 Labor Day Classic champion at the “Speed Palace,” was forced to compete in Saturday’s B-Main after missing a heat race transfer spot by one position. The Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native would go on to win the consolation B-Main, eventually capping his evening with a five-spot bump in the 50-lapper; Dietrich finished 14th.

Nearly perfecting his own version of alphabet soup, Dietrich did his best to qualify for the Night Before the Tuscarora 50, first transferring out of the evening’s C-Main, then making an impressive rally from 19th to seventh in the B-Main, just three spots shy of a transfer position.

“It wasn’t the weekend we wanted by any means, but to come out of there with an A-Main start on Saturday is better than what it could have been. It all starts with qualifying. You miss it by a few and it really sets you back. Lucky for me, I have a team that never gives up. We put Thursday and Friday behind us and did what we had to do to get in on Saturday,” Dietrich said, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, Graver’s Garage, Racer’s New & Used Parts Warehouse, No. 48 sprint car. “We’ll reset this week and work to get a win beginning Thursday at BAPS.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with another three-race sweep through the Keystone State, this time visiting BAPS Motor Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Lincoln Speedway in consecutive fashion on Thursday through Saturday, September 16-18. Thursday’s Greg Hodnett Foundation Dirt Classic Qualifier will get the weekend underway, followed by Williams Grove’s Jack Gunn Memorial – another Dirt Classic qualifier – on Friday. The Dirt Classic, awarding a $20,000 payday, will take over headlines in the Pigeon Hills on Saturday.

Abreu finds top-ten twice during Tuscarora weekend including $54,000-to-win finale; BAPS, Williams Grove, Lincoln next

Dates: Thursday through Saturday, September 9th-11th
Event: 54th Annual Tuscarora 50
Series: All Star Circuit of Champions
Track: Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pennsylvania)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finishes (Start):
Thursday: 7th (20th)
Friday: 24th (5th)
Saturday: 9th (1st)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 13, 2021) – The long tow from Burlington, Washington, to Port Royal, Pennsylvania, proved to be well worth the effort for St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu, as the pilot of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Wiser Agency/Self Made Racing/No. 24 sprint car cashed in for top-ten finishes twice during Port Royal Speedway’s three-day Tuscarora 50 blockbuster, capping all highlights with a ninth-place performance in Saturday’s 50-lap, $54,000-to-win finale featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions.

Impressive enough, Abreu, who won one of six heat races contested on Saturday night, led the first 11 circuits of the historic Tuscarora 50, fading slightly to ninth after starting from the pole position. Abreu’s heat race victory allowed the West Coast hotshoe to draw for one of the top six starting positions; he pulled the one.

Kicking the weekend off in a big way, Abreu rallied from 20th to finish seventh in Thursday’s $8,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 preliminary, ultimately earning the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most feature positions.

Abreu was well on his way to a potential top-five outcome in Friday’s Night Before the Tuscarora 50, but incidental contact with another competitor caused Abreu to spin, as well as puncture a tire. The tire was fixed and Abreu returned, but he eventually retired; Abreu was scored 24th.

“Man, we love racing in Central Pennsylvania. The fans treat us like their own and we love having the opportunity to connect with everyone. We were close a few times this weekend, just couldn’t quite capitalize,” Rico Abreu said, who owns a Knoxville Raceway victory in 2021. “I’m excited to continue our schedule with another full slate in Pennsylvania. It’s been an up and down year, for sure, but to get a win in PA, in front of all of the awesome fans, would ice the cake. I’m ready to get at it.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will continue their 2021 campaign with another three-race sweep through the Keystone State, this time visiting BAPS Motor Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, and Lincoln Speedway in consecutive fashion on Thursday through Saturday, September 16-18.

Hobaugh highlights Labor Day weekend with podium at Tri-City; Port’s Tuscarora 50 looms

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CHICORA, Pa. (September 7, 2021) – Chicora, Pennsylvania’s George Hobaugh was one position away from securing his second sprint car victory of the 2021 season on Saturday night at Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin, Pennsylvania, but time ran short, forcing the Western Pennsylvania open wheeler to cap Tri-City’s Labor Day Weekend opener with a runner-up finish after starting eighth on the $3,000-to-win grid.

For Hobaugh, the podium result equaled his top performance of the holiday weekend, opening his three-race schedule with top-ten run at Lernerville Speedway one night prior, all before finishing 13th in Tri-City’s $4,000-to-win Labor Day finale on Sunday.

Hobaugh’s top-ten outcome at Lernerville resulted from a ninth-place score; a third consecutive top-ten at the Sarver oval.

“I think we could have had something for AJ (Flick) at Tri-City on Saturday…we just ran outta time,” Hobaugh said, driver of the Hobaugh Motorsports, Krill Recycling, Laskowski Plumbing, Ridgeview Security, Hobaugh’s Auto Parts, Colliers Custom Kitchen and Bath, No. 40 sprint car. “It’s been a pretty solid season for our team. The plan was to race at Sharon on Saturday, but we’ve decided to head east and enter the Tuscarora 50. It’s going to be a long, tough weekend, but we know our potential at Port Royal. It all begins with qualifying.”

George Hobaugh and Hobaugh Motorsports will continue their 2021 campaign with the heavily sought-after Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania. The three-day blockbuster, set to headline action on Thursday through Saturday, September 9-11, will feature three complete All Star Circuit of Champions programs kicking-off with an $8,000-to-win preliminary on Thursday. Competition will continue with another preliminary contest on Friday awarding $10,000-to-win, all of which capped with the 54th running of the 50-lap Tuscarora 50 on Saturday. Commemorating its 54th edition, the 2021 Tuscarora 50 will award a $54,000 payday.

Certainly no stranger to Port’s “Speed Palace,” Hobaugh has one top-five at the Port Royal halfmile this season, finishing fourth early in the year.

Whittall aims big in 54th Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

VINCENTOWN, N.J. (September 7, 2021) – Vincentown, New Jersey’s Justin Whittall was well on his way to a potential top-ten outcome on Monday afternoon at Port Royal Speedway, but an incident at the midpoint of the 25-lap Labor Day Classic forced Whittall to retire early.

The recent Williams Grove Speedway winner was battling within the top-ten at the time of the incident; another’s misfortune with nowhere to go.

Other Labor Day weekend results for Justin Whittall and JW Motorsports include a 14th-place run in Williams Grove Speedway’s Todd Shaffer Tribute on Friday, September 3, followed by a 13th-place finish in Port Royal Speedway’s fair opener on Saturday, September 4.

“It kinda sucks, but that’s the way it goes sometimes,” Justin Whittall said of Monday’s Labor Day Classic. “We were in a position to find the top-ten, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do that again this weekend. The Tuscarora 50 is a race we have circled on our calendar each and every year. We know what we are going to be up against…it all begins with time trials. We need to time well and put ourselves in a solid position early. You can’t get stuck in a hole against a field like that. You’ll never get back out. We have the potential to do big things and that’s what we’re aiming to do.”

Justin Whittall will continue the month of September with the heavily sought-after Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway.

Obviously no stranger to Port’s “Speed Palace,” Whittall has one podium finish at the Juniata County Fairgrounds this season, finishing third during an early round of Open Wheel Madness on April 24.

Dietrich victorious in Port Royal’s Labor Day Classic; Tuscarora 50 weekend next

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (September 7, 2021) – For the fifth time this season, and for the first time at Port Royal Speedway, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich parked his Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, No. 48 sprint car in victory lane, earning his feat during Port Royal’s annual Labor Day Classic on Monday afternoon, September 6.

The $6,000 score was accomplished from row four, taking command on lap six over All Star invader Hunter Schuerenberg; Dietrich went on unchallenged.

The victory, his second win in just over a week after beating the All Star Circuit of Champions at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday, August 29, gave Dietrich his second podium performance in four days, as the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native finished second in Williams Grove Speedway’s Todd Shaffer Tribute on Friday, September 3.

Dietrich did his best to run down race leader Brent Marks in traffic, but a late-race caution cleared the track of slower cars forcing Dietrich to take a backseat to the “Myerstown Missile.”

“It was a great weekend, no doubt about that. Nothing better than being comfortable and having confidence right before one of the biggest races of the season. We’re ready to try our hand again against the All Stars at the Tuscarora 50,” Dietrich said, who now owns four total Labor Day Classic triumphs. “I can’t say enough about my team, the fans, the support…we have it all right now and I couldn’t be more excited. We’re going to do what we can to get up front this weekend. We have the potential to do big things and that’s our goal.”

Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue the month of September with the heavily sought-after Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway.

“Double-D” finished 12th in the 2020 edition of Port Royal Speedway’s Tuscarora 50.
